Banana Protein Blender Pancakes (GF + V) – No added sugar too!

It seems that as people get older, they think that pancakes are not suitable for a nutritious breakfast.  Pancakes are unhealthy and too kiddish.  But banana pancakes are naturally nutritious, fluffy, and yes, they can be more creative (just top it with homemade chocolate hazelnut spread!).

Not being a fan of banana by itself, this recipe will actually satisfy both the banana-lovers and the ones who aren’t so much since the flavor isn’t over-powering.  Plus, the nutritiousness of it will simply add to the flavor and fun of these pancakes!

Let’s take a deeper look at the star ingredients:

  • Bananas – Usually known for their richness in potassium, this fruit is also loaded with calcium, manganese, iron, and riboflavin (a vitamin that helps the body break down carbs, proteins, and fats).   And according to Aryuveda, banana’s sweet taste is said to bring heaviness, but the sour taste stimulates agni – which are digestive juices.
  • Oats – They’re rich in antioxidants and avenanthramides, which may help lower blood pressure levels by increasing the production of nitric oxide.  They also contain large amounts of beta-glucan, a type of soluble fiber.  Beta-glucan reduces LDL, blood sugar, and increases the feeling of fullness.
  • Mesquite flour – It’s high in protein and has a high solube fiber content so it won’t cause sugar spikes (which is always important, especially for breakfast!).  It also has a low glycemic index number (25).
  • Protein powder – My favorite is Garden of Life’s raw organic protein powder unflavored and no stevia.  With 22g of protein per scoop, this is no doubt an awesome addition to the pancakes.  Protein helps the body build and repair tissues, and it’s easily digested.  I like how Garden of Life has no fillers, artificial flavors or sweeteners, and no preservatives.
pancakes!

Overall, typical pancakes get a bad rap from the health world for not being the smartest breakfast choice, especially on a daily basis.  But with these, go ahead, just try for yourself.  They won’t disappoint – both your tummy and your taste buds!
